A closer look
Used all of the 12x zoom available. Had to chose between greater DOF and slower shutter. Since the camera was handheld and the angle to shoot was fairly awkward, especially with 12x zoom, slower shutter would have blurred it. These are the times when you wish you had a tripod with you.
P.S. There is a total Lunar eclipse tomorrow morning. Should be visible from Bangalore between 6AM and 7 AM. Thanks to Rajat Jain for the info.

Lights and Heights - 3
I don't really know why I like this photo so much. Is it because of the almost 'unnatural' sharpness of the leaves of the palms? Or is it those two lights glaring the viewer into temporary blindness? My best guess, however, is something else. It was late evening - there was no sunlight for sure, But the floodlights everywhere along with the mist were creating an unnatural glow in the sky. There was breeze which every now and then smelt of burnt fuel from the ferries about to take the tourists for a small cruise. I was walking along the raised deck on land, clicking photographs as I was walking by - getting into awkward positions to take pictures at times - especially awkward for some one wearing a business suit. Somehow this sight, the one in the picture, left a strange 'conceited' feeling in me. As if everything was so artificial - in its attempt to be natural. Who are we trying to fool but ourselves?? I don't know if this photo carries that feeling for you - but for me it reminds me of the artificial lives we are living.

Lights ahd Heights - 2
These twin towers of light (I've no clue about the official name of this building) is one of the uncountable skyscrapers of Hong Kong that are gaudily extravagant in terms of electricity. The towers keep changing colors continuously, as u can see in the pictures, running a spectacular show all the time. This magnificence does have a charm of its own, that lasts as long as you don't start thinking about huts of those poor villagers who don't have electricity in their village yet.
Meanwhile, notice that the top of the building on left, is nowhere to be seen.

This is the most precise definition of Hong Kong - Lights and Heights. Apparently too excess of electricity and too short of land. Most large (or tall) buildings are lighted magnificently, and in different ways from each other - each having a spectacular of its own. For a couple of days now, we'll see some of these here.

Hi again !! Back on Sunday, with loads of more photos (enuff to keep posting for a month at least :D) Was away for my first trip abroad to Hong Kong!! No thanks to my poor English that I am not able to find adjectives for the place.. or may be as they say.. A picture speaks a thousand words.. vision of Hong Kong, however, left me dumbstruck, open mouthed.
For the first time, I felt limitations of my CanonS2IS. The light, colors, widths, depths, heights exceeded far beyond what I could capture. And I *seriously* regret not having carried my wise angle lense and tripod. For almost every picture of lights in night that you'll see, I had to take at least 10 others to get one that did not blur due to handshake for shutters slower than 2 seconds at times. The first picture for example, is a 2 sec shutter hand-held, f/2.8. Not convinced with the depth of field of the picture, I wanted to go for f/8.0 which meant a full 15 second exposure with no tripod. I somehow managed to support the camera on a thing glass railing, still holding it by hand though - for the second picture. (Notice the height of buildings there!!)
Anyways, for most of the pictures in the Hong Kong series, the pictures would be interesting (if at all) for the interesting subjects rather than photography.

We are very receptive to 'Repetition of patterns', be it visual, audio or even behavioral. Patterns create a sense of rhythm and flow. Most songs have a set beat and repeating main stanza. Illusions like Stereograms and many others are based on some pattern appearing repeatedly.
At the same time, the cyclic nature of events tends to be monotonous; after a while.. boring. Cyclic nature has an inherent determinism about occurrence of events. A finite time period after which you know that everything would be all the same.
The question probably goes to the endless debate of whether time and space and dimensions are cyclic or linear. Is the world deterministic or chaotic. While some prefer 'knowing' the future before hand.. I prefer uncertainty. I couldn't find a better explanation to why I kinda liked the second picture more.

We were caught in a traffic jam for a couple of hours. I was pretty restless about the idea of being stuck in a bus outside city and not being able to do anything about it- it felt like I was wasting precious time of my life and had no control over it. I decided to buy a helicopter when I would be rich enough- solely to avoid this frustration. Then, I saw this truck driver from my window and began to think about his life.
